3. Select the TYPE tool and CLICK & DRAG to create a TEXT FRAME anywhere on your COLOR assignment
4. PASTE the color wheel DEFINITIONS into the TEXT FRAME
5. Use the SELECT tool to change the SIZE and SHAPE of your TEXT FRAME if you need to

AIM: Today you will learn how to create a copy of your file that doesn't have layers and add canvas to it

Are you done with your project?

If yes, follow these steps to create a flattened copy of your file

1. Open. save, and review the EVALUATION form for this project to make SURE you are FINISHED and make FINAL CHANGES if NEEDED
The form is in the group folder. If you need more time than the class time allotted, come in for RC as you can
2. Save your T Shirt.PSD file
3. Save As > Select "JPEG" in the FORMAT drop down menu See screen shot below!

4. CLOSE your .PSD file
5. OPEN your .JPG file
If you SKIP STEPS 4/5 you'll end up adding canvas to the wrong file
6. Look at your TOOL BOX and make sure that the BACKGROUND is set to WHITE Default-Foreground-Backgrou.gif

If you SKIP STEP 6 your CANVAS might end up being a color you didn't plan for and create a border around your work

7. Change CANVAS size to 8.5 x 11"
Image > Canvas Size
8. CREATE a folder (name it T Shirt followed by your first name and first initial of your last name like your file name)

Look at the **COLOR WHEEL** to find a contrasting color for your desig
Create a new layer and color it
1. Create a new layer (LAYER > NEW)
2. Drag to the BOTTOM of the LAYERS PALETTE so that it is underneath all your design layers
3.. Select the Paint bucket
4. Window > Swatches. Pick a color that creates CONTRAST (use a complementary color)
5. Pour it into your new layer

AIM: Today you will UNDERSTAND how to work with LAYER STYLES and the RECTANGLE MARQUEE

Select & Delete White Pixels with the Rectangle Marquee Tool_Marquee.gif

1. Use the rectangle marquee to select a white area on one of your layers

2. Go to the Select Menu and choose Similar

SELECT > SIMILAR (Don't pick SIMILAR LAYERS)

3 DELETE!! Use the LARGE delete key that's under the volume and eject keys

4. Repeat this in at least 4 layers so all you have left in them is BLACK LINES
You can delete the white pixels in all your layers if you want

Apply Layer Styles


5. Click on the LAYER STYLES icon to open up its menu

6. Choose STROKE and EDIT color and weight on all or some of your layers

7. Choose Drop Shadow, play with the settings, and apply it to one of your layers

8. OPTION-DRAG the Layer Styles icon on the layer with the drop shadow to another layer

You just copied it!

9. Use ANALOGOUS colors

Pour White pixels into your organic shapes

1. Open your T-Shirt Graphic

2. Select the Paint Bucket tool
3. Set the foreground and background colors to the default black and white and then flip them

5. Click on the empty area inside your organic shape to fill it with white pixels

6. Now use the move tool to select and then duplicate/scale/flip your organic shape

7. Continue to work towards creating formal/informal balance.

4. PASTE it into your T-SHIRT GRAPHIC (Choose PIXELS) and hit the return key
(If your ORGANIC SHAPE is too small, DON'T SCALE IT UP! Instead, paste it again as SMART OBJECT, scale it up, and then rasterize it.

2. SELECT LAYER 1 in your LAYERS PALETTE (WINDOW > LAYERS)
3. DUPLICATE the LAYER (LAYER > DUPLICATE LAYER) (Option Drag with the MOVE TOOL Tool_Moveworks for this too!)
Use AUTO SELECT layer in the OPTIONS BAR for the MOVE tool to easily select layers
4. Repeat the Process until you have at least 5 LAYERS
5. Work on creating a design with AT LEAST 5 layers
........Scale and Rotate: Edit > Free Transform (Command T). Hit the RETURN key each time you want to commit the Transformation

VIEW > RULERS - Drag a VERTICAL GUIDE to the middle of your composition (3.75" on the horizontal ruler at the top of your screen)

1. Load Adobe Illustrator
2. File > New
3. Name it "T Shirt" followed by your first name and first initial of your last name
example: T Shirt Martina H
4. Copy and Paste your color wheel into it (or you can paste a different illustrator drawing like one of your AI Skills 6 Shapes)
5. Convert the fill and stroke to the DEFAULT BLACK & WHITE setting
6. File > Save As and choose EPS in the FORMAT drop down menu
7. Close your T-Shirt file
8. DRAG your closed T-Shirt file.eps ICON to the PHOTOSHOP icon (The Blue Feather) on your DOCK
9. In the RASTERIZE GENERIC EPS FORMAT Window...
* Look at the BOTTOM of the WINDOW and make sure the CONSTRAIN PROPORTIONS BOX is CHECKED
  • Enter 7 for WIDTH
  • Make sure the width setting is for INCHES
  • DO NOT CHANGE the HEIGHT measurement
  • Enter 300 for RESOLUTION
  • Set the MODE to RGB COLOR

10. Now go to the IMAGE MENU and open up the CANVAS SIZE window
  • Enter 7.5 for WIDTH
  • Enter 9.75 for HEIGHT
  • Make sure the settings are for INCHES
11. SAVE your work. It will now have the .PSD file extension because it's a Photoshop Document
12. SUBMIT your PSD file to the SUBMIT folder for your class

GRASP
You have been commissioned to create an art piece for a group exhibition that celebrates the diverse neighborhoods of New York City. Study the narrative work of Romare Bearden to identify ways he communicated ideas about the New York City neighborhood Harlem. Think about your own neighborhood, neighbors, friends, family, shops, shop keepers, parks, architecture, daily experiences, etc. Use Photoshop and digital images of textures, people, and objects to create a work that communicates the unique quality of your neighborhood and your personal experiences in it. The curator for the exhibit will accept your piece if it meets all of the criteria above.
